Evan S '21 Walks-Off to Ending in Victory Over Rancho San Juan


A walk-off single propelled Crystal to a decisive, dramatic victory over Rancho San Juan, 2-1. With the game tied at one with Crystal batting in the bottom of the seventh Evan S ‘21 singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring Westly P and securing the team's third win of the season.

The pitching was strong on both sides, but Crystal gave up just one hit on the game and struck out five as a unit. The win goes to Dylan A ‘23, who came in relief for 1.2 innings and struck out two. Dev M ’22 pitched the first three innings of the game, had just one earned run and walked in his at-bat at the plate.

The Gryphons got going early with Peter D ‘20 scoring the first run of the game. He finished the game 2-4 from the plate with numerous putouts defensively. Evan S ’21, the MVP of the game, finished the game going 3-4 with an RBI.

Rancho San Juan knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning. Adam R grounded out but scored one run.

Later, Charlie B ’20 came in an threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

For the game, Crystal racked up seven hits. Evan, Peter and Andrew S ‘20, all managed multiple hits for Crystal. Andrew S led the team with two stolen bases. The team had six.

This win moves the Gryphons to 3-1 overall on the season with victories over Summit, Design Tech, and San Juan. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the team will sadly not play again until they face Westmoor on April 14 after Spring Break.
